Art TherapyWhat is 'Art Therapy' and 'Art as Therapy
Ten day Training Course that explores the difference between what is 'Art Therapy' and 'Art as Therapy' and how can professionals in the caring professions adapt new creative approaches and skills to include in their own practice. (A certificate on completion will be awarded for Continuing Professional Development). The course is aimed at Professionals' and Organizations'. The groups will be made up of six participants.

Ten day programme will explore the following:-
* * * Making a distinction between art therapy and art as therapy
*
* * * It introduces/examines underpinning theoretical approaches to art as therapy
*
* * * It explores the role of art as therapy in aiding healing and individuation and its value to the individual and wider community.
*
* * * Develop competence in the application and evaluation of relevant facilitation skills using the arts.
*
* * * Extend one's own personal development and self-care strategies
*
* * * Extend one's own professional development in the therapeutic and developmental roles.
*

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the distinction between art therapy and art as therapy: Key aspects of theory underpinning art as therapy: Basic concepts relating to the triad of art, client, therapist: Ethical issues around boundaries, confidentiality, safe containment and assessment / referral: Explore art medium and understand there appropriate use: Personal experience of the symbolic art making process and its role in maintaining and/restoring well-being: The relevance and needfulness of personal development, self care and supervision. Critically reflecting on and evaluating non-verbal and verbal therapeutic approaches: Developing competence in the application and evaluation of relevant facilitation skills:

Each day will follow a theme with the input of
Discussions, Experiential art making, skills practice, illustrated case studies

Participants are asked to keep a personal log of learning etc and produce one essay of 4000 words.

The 10 days can be made up to the groups request, however a suggested programme for the 10 days would be
2 weekends Sat/Sun (4days)
6 Saturdays (one per month)

Venue: Art Therapy Works Carrickfergus
Fee: 375 per day for a group of six participants (62.50 per person per day. The full training costs 625 per person) The fee includes hand-outs, art materials and lunch.
